Since the stores have decided to throw out all the school supplies July 5th, i figures I need to start emotionally, mentally, and physically stretching in preparation for the new school year. With that being said, one of the main obstacles English teachers experience is that students of all ages struggle with effective sentence construction. Part of it is not comprehending the parts of speech. Part of it is not understanding the relationships between the parts of speech. Part of it is not understanding how to structure effective sentences. Whatever the reason, the solution has to begin with a stronger grasp of the basic parts of speech, then repeating that over, and over, and, did I mention, over in the context of word relationships as well as effective structure. This summer for me, in many ways, has been about going back to the basics, so I figured applying that concept to the the improvement of student grammar and writing might be the best place to start. In the photographs, you will see examples of simple sentence stretching activities that will help students to expand simple sentences with adjectives, adverbs, prepositional phrases, etc., as well as the various figures of speech. 1--Fold a regular piece of notebook paper, in a accordion style so that there are five sections. I will be making a template for this with a line to indicate where the kids need to make the folds to make the task a bit more uniform and expeditious. 2--Start with a simple sentence in the first section. Be sure to have the students label the subject and the verb of the sentence to orient the kids for word placement as they expand the sentences. 3--Begin adding on one part of speech, one phrase, one clause, or one figure of speech application in each section. |

Hello, this looks like a great method for helping the students with sentence structure; however, is there a way to get a closer look at those images?
